What are Network Issues and Network Events?

Network Issues regroup multiple Network Events affecting a single Network Monitoring Session during a period of time. They are not always totally bad but it indicates that something has change from the baseline and it might need attention. Most of the network events are based on thresholds that are configured in the Network Monitoring Templates.

Network Event Types
Network Event Types

  • Session Down: When a monitoring session has gone down. The severity level is Critical. The threshold is the Session Timeout in the Network Monitoring Template.

  • Latency: When the latency is over the configured thresholds. The severity level is either Warning or Error depending on the threshold.

  • Jitter: When the jitter is over the configured thresholds. The severity level is either Warning or Error depending on the threshold.

  • Packet Loss: When the packet loss is over the configured thresholds. The severity level is either Warning or Error depending on the threshold.

  • Packet Duplication: When a packet duplicate is detected. Learn more on Packet Duplication.

  • Packet Reordering: When a packet reorder is detected. Learn more on Packet Reordering.

  • DSCP Mismatch: When a monitoring packet is received with the wrong DSCP code. Learn more on DSCP Propagation Testing.

Closed Network Issues
Closed Network Issues

As soon as there is a Network Event raising an alert, a Network Issue is created. The Network Issue stays opened until everything looks fine for 15 minutes. After that 15-minute window with no Network Events, the Network Issue is closed.
